Okay. So 2020 wasn’t the year anyone predicted. In my previous 2019 Highlights, I ended the blog with the words “bring it on!”. While 2020 will go down in history for a virus that knew no geographic boundaries and put a halt to daily life as we knew it. When I reflected back I noticed that in-between all the chaos, there were moments of

Beauty.

Love.

Family.

And the overall wonder of human connection.

This year I was fortunate enough to witness 33 couples who pushed through a pandemic to get married. The early part of the year was the toughest as some changed their plans so drastically that they only ended up with 5 people at their wedding and that’s including myself and the celebrant. Some were lucky enough to scrape in by a couple of days as the borders and restrictions tightened. Yet some were forced to postpone to 2021. The second half of the year we were fortunate enough to still have weddings relatively unchanged apart from a few minor restrictions, with border closures being our biggest hurdle.

What I’ve witnessed this year with a lot of my couples who were able to proceed with their wedding, was their commitment to marry wasn’t going to be thwarted by the idea of having their ‘perfect wedding’. They realised that their wedding was about having those loved ones who could attend, celebrating with them, even if the dance floor was limited and guest numbers cut down.

On a positive, 2020 gave us a change slow down a bit, a reset in many ways. And that’s a gift no one had expected. It’s made me appreciate my job even more and I look forward to next year with greater anticipation. Whatever it holds.

So here’s a collection of some of my fav images of 2020, with some engagement sessions of some of my lovely couples getting married in 2021. One of my favourite images is the second last image of this blog post. It’s a sign that was placed at the entrance to one of the weddings. It read “Twenty Twenty couldn’t stop us”

Whatever 2021 brings.

Let’s make the most of it.

Don’t let it stop you.
